Alexander Kravchenko FUNCTIONAL/COGNITIVE ASYMMETRY OF RUSSIAN PARTICIPLES AND KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTATION

چکیده

The meaning and function of two verbals as well as syntactic constraints on their use are analyzed. It is shown that the treatment of participles in traditional grammar is inadequate as the constraining mechanisms are not explained and their relationship to the grammatical meaning of participles is not accounted for. A cognitive approach in the framework of a cognitive theory of tense and aspect allows to view the meaning and function of Russian participles as that of knowledge representation, whereby functional asymmetry of the participles is explained by relating their referential features to the cognitive processing parameter "source of information".

The circumflex advancement in Prekmurje Slovenian and Bednja Kajkavian∗

The circumflex advancement is, according to Rigler (1986), one of the rare Common Slovenian (Comm. Slov.) phenomena and can be employed for distinguishing Slovenian from Kajkavian. Slov. gen. sg. noht“a for PSl. *n‚ogti. This...
